Writing

The way a message is framed and articulated influences the response of your readers: it's vital that you work with a writer who knows that material meant for a casual, savvy audience eager to be entertained should be different in style and tone from a detailed report designed to inform decision makers. I specialize in producing clear and engaging writing tailored to your specific needs—my years in government communications and the online news media have made me adept at telling very different kinds of stories effectively and persuasively.

During my time at Torontoist (first as associate editor, then as managing editor, and finally as interim editor-in-chief), I covered breaking news stories and developed features, all while overseeing the day-to-day operations of the website. I was required to write thorough and entertaining pieces on everything from developments at city hall to the adorableness of cats. A full list of my articles can be found here.

I also worked closely with advertising partners to create custom content that effectively communicated their vision while maintaining the voice and editorial approach of Torontoist.

While serving in various roles at the Ontario government, I produced a wide range of communications materials for both internal and external stakeholders. I prepared briefing notes, presentations, correspondence, communications plans, news releases, newsletters, brochures, posters, and sections of the Ministry of the Attorney General's annual request for capital funding.

I currently write a monthly column on language and grammar for The Walrus.
